AI Connectors: Use Sparrow Intel from Claude, ChatGPT and Grok

Written By Chad McGuire (Sparrow Intel)

[BETA]: AI connectors are in beta and are being turned on account by account. We'll let you know when they're available on your account.

What AI connectors do

AI connectors let you use Sparrow Intel from the AI app you already work in, such as Claude, ChatGPT or Grok. Once connected, you can ask questions about your account in plain language, and the app answers with your live Sparrow Intel data. You can also ask it to do things for you, like triage your inbox, draft replies or update a rule.

AI connectors use MCP (Model Context Protocol), the standard these apps use to connect to other services. You sign in with your own Sparrow Intel login and choose what the app can do:

  • Read is always included. The app can look things up.

  • Make changes lets the app draft replies, triage, create tasks and update rules, templates and settings. Most changes can be undone.

  • Send lets the app message guests and post review replies. It's only offered when your account allows it.

A connected app can never see or do more than your role allows in Sparrow Intel.

What you can ask

Your AI app can read:

  • Reviews, review summaries and the review dashboard

  • Review predictions: which guests are likely to leave a good or bad review

  • The reviews you leave for guests

  • Guest feedback survey responses

  • Properties, property groups and Airbnb listing quality

  • Reports, such as category ratings against your goals and cleaner rankings

  • Rules and settings

Other Sparrow Intel features on your account, such as Conversations, are included too. The app only sees the features your account has.

A few questions to try:

  • "Summarize our reviews from the last 90 days. What do guests complain about most?"

  • "Which properties have the lowest cleanliness ratings this quarter?"

  • "Which guests who checked out this week are likely to leave a bad review?"

  • "Which of our Airbnb listings are at risk in listing quality?"

  • "Show our review dashboard for [property group] over the last six months."

  • "Explain what each of our rules does."

Answers can include links back to Sparrow Intel, so you can open a review, property or report in the portal.

What the app can change

With Make changes, your AI app can:

  • Draft replies with Chirp AI to guest messages and reviews. Drafts are saved in Sparrow Intel for your team to review. Nothing is sent.

  • Triage up to 25 items at once: open or close conversations, add labels, assign them to a teammate, star them or add an internal note, and do the same kind of cleanup on reviews, review predictions and social mentions.

  • Create cleaning, maintenance or inspection tasks in your connected task system, such as your PMS, Breezeway, Asana or ClickUp.

  • Suggest Knowledge Hub snippets. New snippets wait in the review queue until someone approves them. The app can also approve or reject snippets that are waiting.

  • Manage message templates, property groups, saved filters and scheduled reports.

  • Draft appeals for Airbnb listings with quality issues.

  • Create and edit rules whose actions stay inside Sparrow Intel, such as labels, stars, assignment, status changes and tasks. New rules are saved turned off, and the app can show which recent items a rule would have matched before it turns the rule on. Rules that message guests or post replies are set up in Sparrow Intel.

  • Stop a scheduled message or a scheduled review of a guest.

  • Update settings: Chirp AI's global context, message signature and conversation categories, your review reply guidelines and rating goals, whether learned knowledge needs review, and your listing appeal context.

A few things to try:

  • "Close every conversation from guests who checked out last week and only said thanks."

  • "Star our 1- and 2-star reviews from this month and add a note that they need a follow-up."

  • "Create a rule that stars every review under 3 stars, and show me what it would have caught last month."

  • "Add a line to our review reply guidelines: always thank the guest by first name."

Undo a change

Every change an AI app makes is listed under Recent AI changes on the AI Connectors page, with who made it and through which app. To reverse one, click Undo, or ask your AI app to undo it.

Undo works while the item is still exactly as the app left it, so newer edits are never overwritten. Drafts, tasks, approvals and anything sent can't be undone.

Changes also show which app made them. For example, the Activity tab of a conversation shows "via Claude" next to changes made through Claude.

Send messages and review replies

With Send, your AI app can:

  • Message a guest in a conversation where the guest wrote in the last 30 days. The message goes out through the conversation's channel, such as Airbnb, Vrbo, your PMS or text.

  • Post a public reply to a review, when Sparrow Intel can reply on that review's channel. Reviews on other channels are answered on the channel's site.

  • Edit a scheduled review of a guest before Sparrow Intel posts it on Airbnb: the public text, the private note, whether you'd host them again, or when it posts.

  • Message many guests at once: one message to up to 200 guests with booked stays, such as everyone arriving this weekend or everyone staying in a property group. The app first shows you a preview of every guest, the message each one gets and who was left out. Nothing is sent until you confirm.

Review replies posted through an AI app show "via" and the app's name next to the reply. Messages show it in the conversation's Activity tab.

A few things to try:

  • "Read the latest message from the guest at [property] and reply that early check-in at 1 PM is fine."

  • "Reply to our newest 5-star review and thank the guest for the kind words."

  • "Tell everyone staying in [property group] this weekend that the pool is closed for repairs. Show me the preview first."

Turn on sending

Sending is off until an Owner or Team Member turns it on:

  1. Go to AI Connectors.

  2. Under What AI apps can send, turn on what you want to allow:

    • Allow sending messages to guests

    • Allow posting review replies and reviews of guests

    • Allow messages to many guests at once

  3. Each person who wants to send then connects their AI app again and checks sending when they approve it. See Change what a connected app can do below.

Your role still applies. For example, the app can only message guests if you can message guests in Sparrow Intel.

Rules every message follows

  • Plain text, up to 2,000 characters.

  • No access codes or passwords. A message that looks like it contains a door, lock or gate code or a password is refused. Send access details from Sparrow Intel or your PMS.

  • Links must start with https:// and can't be shortened links.

  • No unknown contact details. Email addresses and phone numbers must already appear in the conversation, the reservation or your message templates, or use one of your own email domains.

  • Public replies stay clean. Review replies and reviews of guests can't include links, email addresses or phone numbers.

  • The guest comes first. If the guest writes while your AI app is working, the send stops so you can read the new message first.

  • Limits:

    • At most 3 messages to the same guest every 15 minutes from AI apps.

    • The same message isn't sent twice to the same guest within 10 minutes.

    • Up to 20 messages and replies an hour per connected app.

    • Up to 5 messages to many guests per account per day.

Before you start

  • AI connectors must be on for your account. Go to AI Connectors and turn on Allow AI connectors for this account. Owners and Team Members can change this setting.

  • Your role applies. A connected app can never see or do more than you can in Sparrow Intel.

  • Users limited to specific property groups can't connect yet.

Connect your AI app

Every app works the same way: you add Sparrow Intel to the app as a custom connector, then sign in to Sparrow Intel and approve what the app can do.

  1. In Sparrow Intel, open your account menu and choose AI Connectors (MCP).

  2. Copy the Server URL: https://mcp.sparrowintel.com/mcp

  3. Add Sparrow Intel to your AI app, using the steps for your app below.

  4. Your AI app opens a Sparrow Intel page. Sign in if you're asked to.

  5. If you have access to more than one Sparrow Intel account, choose the account to connect.

  6. Choose what the app will be able to do. Reading is always included. Check or uncheck making changes and sending, then click Allow access.

You're sent back to your AI app, and you can start asking questions.

Claude (web, desktop and mobile)

A connector you add in Claude works in Claude on the web, in the desktop app and in the mobile app.

On a Free, Pro or Max plan:

  1. In Claude, go to Customize > Connectors.

  2. Click Add custom connector.

  3. Enter Sparrow Intel as the name and paste the server URL.

  4. If Claude asks how people sign in, choose Sign in now. For OAuth client, choose Use Claude's published identity. You don't need a client ID or secret.

  5. Click Add. If the Sparrow Intel page doesn't open, click Connect next to Sparrow Intel.

The Free plan allows one custom connector.

On a Team or Enterprise plan:

An Owner of your Claude organization adds Sparrow Intel once. Then each person connects with their own Sparrow Intel login.

  1. The Owner goes to Organization settings > Connectors, selects Add, then Custom (and Web if Claude asks for the connector type).

  2. The Owner enters Sparrow Intel as the name, pastes the server URL and clicks Add.

  3. Each person goes to Customize > Connectors, finds Sparrow Intel with the Custom label and clicks Connect.

Use it in a chat: click the + button in the message box, choose Connectors and make sure Sparrow Intel is on. Claude may ask before it uses a Sparrow Intel tool. Only choose Always allow if you're comfortable with Claude using it without asking.

Claude Code

Run this command in your terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http sparrow https://mcp.sparrowintel.com/mcp

ChatGPT

Add Sparrow Intel from ChatGPT on the web.

  1. Go to ChatGPT Plugins.

  2. Select the + button, then Add custom MCP server.

  3. Enter Sparrow Intel as the name. The description is optional.

  4. Under Connection, paste the server URL into Server URL.

  5. For authentication, choose OAuth.

  6. Review the risk warning, select I understand and want to continue, then select Create as a plugin.

  7. Find Sparrow Intel in your plugins and install it.

Use it in a chat: in the prompt box, type @ and select Sparrow Intel.

On a ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace: your workspace's permissions decide whether you can add custom MCP servers. If you don't see Add custom MCP server, ask your ChatGPT workspace admin.

Grok

  1. Go to grok.com/connectors.

  2. Click New Connector, then select Custom.

  3. Paste the server URL, then sign in to Sparrow Intel.

Grok picks up Sparrow Intel's tools and can use them in your conversations. If you don't see Custom, your Grok plan may not include custom connectors.

On Grok Business or Enterprise: a team admin adds Sparrow Intel first. On the team's connectors page, the admin clicks + Add Connector, selects Other and enters the server URL. Adding connectors needs the Team Read-Write permission. Each person then goes to grok.com/connectors to connect their own account.

Keep your data safe

  • Read before you approve. Most AI apps ask before they use a tool that changes or sends something. Read the message or change before you approve it, and don't choose Always allow for sending.

  • Access codes stay in Sparrow Intel. Door, lock and gate codes and passwords are replaced with [withheld] in everything your AI app receives.

  • Check that the app is the one you expect. The Sparrow Intel page shows the name of the app asking for access and where approving sends you. Claude, ChatGPT and Grok are marked Verified app. Sparrow Intel marks apps it doesn't recognize as Unverified app, and unverified apps can only read. Only continue if you started the connection yourself.

  • Your AI app's terms apply. What your AI app reads from Sparrow Intel is handled by that app's provider under its own terms and privacy settings.

Manage connected apps

The Connected apps list on the AI Connectors page shows each connected app, what it can do, when it was connected and when it was last used.

  • To disconnect an app, click Disconnect. It loses access to Sparrow Intel right away.

  • You can see and disconnect your own apps. Owners and Team Members see every connection on the account and can disconnect any of them.

  • Turning off Allow AI connectors for this account cuts off every connected app right away.

Recent AI changes, on the same page, lists what AI apps changed in the last 30 days. You see your own changes. Owners and Team Members see every change on the account.

Change what a connected app can do

What an app can do is set when you connect it, and the Access column shows it. To allow making changes or sending later, click Disconnect next to the app, then connect again from your AI app and check the new permission.

Troubleshooting

I can't find where to add a custom connector in my AI app.
AI apps change their menus often, and custom connectors depend on your app's plan. On work and business plans, an admin may need to add or allow them first. Check your app's own guide: Claude, ChatGPT or Grok.

I don't see AI Connectors in my account menu.
AI connectors aren't on for your account yet. We'll let you know when they are.

The Sparrow Intel page says AI connectors aren't turned on.
An Owner or Team Member needs to turn on Allow AI connectors for this account on the AI Connectors page. Then try connecting again.

Sending is listed under Unavailable permissions when I connect.
Open the list to see why. Usually sending is off for your account, or your role can't message guests or reply to reviews. An Owner or Team Member can turn sending on under What AI apps can send on the AI Connectors page.

My AI app says it can't make changes or send.
Your connection was approved without that permission. Disconnect the app and connect it again, then check making changes or sending when you approve it.

My AI app says the guest hasn't written in the last 30 days.
AI apps can only message guests who wrote in the last 30 days. To reach guests with upcoming stays, ask the app to message many guests at once, if your account allows it, or send the message from Sparrow Intel.

My AI app says a new message arrived.
The guest wrote while your AI app was working. Ask the app to read the conversation again before it sends.

My AI app says my message was refused.
The message broke one of the rules under Rules every message follows above, such as including a door code or a phone number that isn't in the conversation. Ask the app to change the message and try again.

Undo didn't work.
The item changed after the AI app changed it, so undoing would overwrite newer work. Make the change by hand in Sparrow Intel instead.

My AI app stopped working with Sparrow Intel.
Someone may have disconnected the app, or AI connectors were turned off for the account. Connect the app again from your AI app.

I want to use a different Sparrow Intel account.
Each connection works with one account. Disconnect the app, connect it again, and choose the other account on the Sparrow Intel page.

My AI app says Sparrow Intel is busy, or that it's sending too many requests.
Sparrow Intel limits how many requests, changes and messages a connection can make in a short time, and large searches and reports can take a moment. Wait a minute, then ask again.
